Some Final Twittervism Before a Vacation Break
A year has passed since I ramped up production of blog entries with a break at the end of 2017. This weekend marks the anniversary of the Charlottesville atrocity, the murder of Heather Heyer, and the two police officers who died in a helicopter crash that was present because of the Far Right rally. Since then, I took part in the short gubernatorial campaign of Ameya Pawar, set up a ton of monthly donations to non-profits and political causes that are close to me, went to a few rallies/protests about immigration, attended an even about socialism movements in Honduras and the Phillipines, and an Indivisible where a liberal Congressman disappointed me with talk about process, access, influence, and money. It's been half a decade of a year! Tariffs don't fortify national defense. However, voting does. Go out & vote in November. Unspoken translation to conservative "How are we going to pay for social programs that sound attractive?" ~ "Why will us white people have to pay for non-white people?" when the answer to the voiced question is "The 1% & others who got tons of money off most of our backs." Did some research. ACA started 2014. Major cold snap at beginning of 2014. By end, economy did good, there was some major job growth, & that's when economy did major turnaround. How much was 2016 Election a reaction to 2014 & earlier? Trump freeze consciousness w/ announcement? So the Right in the US complains that citizens don't work hard enough while non-citizens come to this country then work too hard & are willing to get paid less. How much are people supposed to work & supposed to get paid? (Note: I know these are dog whistles on the Right). Why is Trump putting out negativity? He wants to mobilize base that feels "persecuted" like him & encourage voter self-suppression of independents & the Left. Don't self suppress. Get out there for primaries & November 6 & let your opinion be heard in the minimum participation. Reason is more history than science, & unsatisfying to author & us. Except for the ending, this story sounds familiar to national politics since 2008. . .except for maybe that Chicago had a more capable total leader afterward. "[. . .] liberals focused their efforts on specific advocacy issues rather than institutions. [. . .]" TRUTH! People on left disaffected with institutions. At the signing ceremony of #VRA53, President Johnson called the Voting Rights Act “a triumph for freedom as huge as any victory that has ever been won on the battlefield.” Racism, sexism, anti-Semitism, homophobia, and transphobia are real in this country. The Russians know that — they attacked us demographically and geographically. And they’re still trying to divide us and conquer. This is an urgent national security threat. Wise words from @CynthiaNixon at #NN18: “We can’t just give people something to vote against.
